Position: Eighteen (18) Month Term Position – Assistant or Associate Professor - Large Animal Surgery
The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for an eighteen (18) month, full-time contract position in large animal surgery at the appointment of assistant or associate professor, with potential for renewal based on performance and budgetary approval.
The successful applicant will join an established large animal surgery team of ACVS boarded diplomates, residents, interns, and technicians. Primary duties will be providing clinical and emergency surgery service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and clinical teaching of residents, interns, and 4th year veterinary students during hospital rotations. The applicant will also be involved with didactic and laboratory teaching of pre-clinical veterinary students.
Qualifications:
- A DVM (or equivalent) degree
- Diplomate ACVS/ECVS or has successfully completed an ACVS or ECVS residency training program in large animal surgery
- Demonstrated teaching ability, especially clinical teaching
- Well-developed skills of collaboration and communication
- Eligibility for licensure with the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association
To support our residency programs and caseload, candidates with diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgery (ECVS) will be preferred for the position. However, candidates who have successfully completed a surgical residency training program can apply. Training and experience in advanced equine dental procedures is desirable. A graduate degree is desirable but not mandatory.
The salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time faculty receive a comprehensive fringe benefits package, with benefit details provided at time of offer in accordance with the university’s collective agreement.
